COMMON WOODCUT [CALLÚNA VULGÁRIS (L.) Hill.] - RELICT PLANT FLORA OF THE MIDDLE URALS

Common Heather is an evergreen shrub 30-70 (100) cm tall. A rare species, listed In the red book of the Middle Urals. Flavonoids, coumarins, catechins, saponins, tannins, resins, phenols and their derivatives were found in the aboveground part. Heather preparations are used in official medicine in Europe: in Germany for insomnia and as a diuretic; in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, tea is used as a soothing, diaphoretic, and softening agent. In folk medicine of different countries (including Norway, Poland, Hungary), drugs are used internally for inflammation of the bladder wall and urinary tract, especially effective for kidney stones; used for high temperature, diabetes, atherosclerosis, tuberculosis, dry cough, liver diseases, bile ducts and spleen, gastritis with high acidity, colitis, enterocolitis, radiculitis, rheumatism, gout, increased nervous excitability, insomnia. It can be used for decorative purposes to create low letnetsvetuschih thickets on dry sandy soils, for the design of Alpine slides. There are more than 20 garden forms with different colors of flowers and leaves.
